I’m very excited to announce that I’ll be filming my 3rd comedy special on Saturday November 8th, 2014 at Art Boutiki in San Jose, CA. It’s been far too long since my last special “Be Yourself…Unless You’re An Idiot”. But I have been working hard to make sure I’ve got some seriously funny material for…
There has been a lot of talk about depression, suicide, and mental health over the last couple weeks after Robin Williams’ untimely death. It’s been depressing. Not to mention all the other bad news happening around the world. So as I was driving from the airport yesterday to the club I’m playing this weekend, I…
It’s definitely time to do a new special. I’ve been working really hard for a few years now on the material and it’s just about ready to go. Details with be forthcoming. Over the past few months of planning and writing, I’ve been periodically publishing a video diary of the special’s progress to show you…
Sure, Disneyland is expensive and crowded. But just think of all the great things you can experience by spending a lovely vacation there with your family! 1. Meet all your favorite Disney characters and see how a drunken Anaheim teenager acts inside a furry suit. 2. Travel at high speeds through outer space without…
Everyone and their brother is posting tributes to Robin Williams today of course. Everything from personal stories of “I met Robin and he…” to memories of other people that involved Robin and his work. How he made people feel like it was ok to be a bit of a weirdo. It almost seems like me-too-ism…
Every artist has their heroes. And I have plenty. Eddie Izzard, Prince, Robin Williams, Aerosmith… Artists that regularly come and go in my playlists. Sometimes I don’t hear them for awhile. Then they’re back again like old friends. But that man you see at the left almost never leaves my ears. His name is Butch…
Dating a comic is no picnic, as my girlfriend will happily attest to. And the life of comedy-spouse or significant other is nearly as tough a job as being a comic. So to all of you who hang in there with all of us, I say thank you, and dedicate this list. 10 Signs You’re…
I went to see Motley Crue and Alice Cooper the other night. That was the music of my teenage years and you get stuck with that through your whole life. It’s why my parents still listen to Roy Orbison, 90’s kids will always listen to Nirvana and Tupac, and some poor child today is going…
I went for an eye exam the other day because I hadn’t had one in years. I don’t wear glasses or anything, but my right eye has been a mess since I was a kid. I managed to get some sort of eye infection in that same eye at least once a year. I’ll tell…
Sometimes you’re presented with an idea that in every way looks like a bad idea. And yet you still consider going along with it. My recent reality show experience is an example. Another example is the evening I was playing a casino gig that was really out in the boonies. A large contingent of the…
Hotel rooms can be expensive. Luckily I’m usually staying at a hotel on the comedy club’s dime. But sometimes I have to pay for my own. Here are 7 ways you can recoup the cost of your hotel room. 1. For hotels that don’t already offer it, leave two bottles of water with a sign…
Because I don’t sit still very well, one of my side gigs is doing voiceover work. Most of the projects aren’t all that exciting. Car dealership commercials, industrials. I was the voice for a series of commercials for a Texas orthodontist. Real glamorous stuff. 🙂 But this recent one I did for the power company…
There’s a good chance you haven’t seen me on TV yet. Unless my mother has shown you that one community access show from when I was 14 where I played “The First Noel” on the flute. If her house were to catch on fire, let’s just say that’s not the object I’d rescue first. Just…
July 31st, 2014 is National Uncommon Instrument Awareness Day. Who knew, right? Check out the PSA I created below to support those who dedicate their life to uncommon musical instruments. Because really, tuba players, ocarina virtuoso’s, and whoever plays that thing in the picture at the left need friends. That also happens to be the…
On the last episode of Being Blackbeard, Tony and I were talking about a scene in the 2nd episode of Crossbones where the two pirates were discussing this new navigation device that everyone is trying to get their hands on. The one pirate said something to the effect of “I thought it was well known…
For a long time now I’ve been pondering podcast themes. I didn’t want to do some random “comedy podcast” because most of them are terrible. I wanted to do a show on a subject that appeals to me and would have an audience interested in it. A couple weeks ago, the fates (and NBC) intervened…
People often ask me how they can help me promote my work. Especially if they don’t have any money to buy my stuff. Which is perfectly ok. 🙂 And truth be told, the stuff you do is a million times more effective than anything I can do when promoting. There are probably lots of artists…
For the past couple weeks I’ve been working on a new song called “The Legend of Ms. Garcia”. It got a trial run at a gig in Santa Cruz, CA last night and did pretty well. The recording for this one will need a hefty dose of strings, so I’ve been spending midnights sitting with…
It’s been a little while since I did any Disney updating here. But I just saw a video for the new Seven Dwarfs Mine Train ride at WDW. Specifically for the new Animatronic figures inside. You can check out the video below. I have to say, I’m pretty impressed. I’ve not been a big fan…
Vegas is an interesting bird for comedians. You get audiences of all different types of people from all different places with all different points of view and bases of reference. So it always makes for challenging shows. I did four shows on this run. The first in Vegas at the Rampart Casino and the other…
I usually spend a couple minutes each day cruising around the net to stay up on the zeitgeist. Sometimes I find something really intriguing, creative, or useful. More often I find things that are the equivalent of a song you hate and can’t get out of your head. The thing is, headline writing has become…
Rock Formations was a milestone event in the career of Roadside Attraction. And some milestones are both good and bad. Normally I would give you insights to these songs, but I didn’t write the lyrics for any of them, so I’m honestly not sure what some of them are about. But from a musicians standpoint,…
There are certain songs that make me want to write. Maybe it’s a great lyric, or a killer riff, or a neat production idea, or a cool groove. Something about the songs makes me want to pick up my guitar and write a song. Usually I hear those songs on shuffle with everything else and…
Here’s part 2 in the hopefully ongoing process of filming my new comedy special this fall. In this one I had a chance to check out a couple of venues. Plus a little clip of a new bit I’m working on for the special. One of the strange things about the entertainment business is the…
