Kitties and Boobs is now available on major platforms! Click here to listen to the song. A manic fever dream of a song about the true engine of the internet that will make you dance like a 22 year old white girl high on molly at EDC and make all the dark thoughts go away. …
My friend asked me to write a song for her baby shower… Her mistake. Usually song will move in and out of my shows when new stuff gets created. But ever since I released Dodged A Bullet in 2012 it’s been a regular part of the set list. Even the toughest audience will crack and…
The behind the scenes on the development of a Van Halen pastiche called “Sweat Pants”.
My Hallelujah parody is out today! (Everywhere but Spotify for some reason. I’m working on that.) Listen on your preferred service at https://link.roadsideattraction.com/hallelujah But why would I write a parody? I never done one before. So why this song? There’s a book by Alan Light called “The Holy Or The Broken” (Amazon link) all about…
Yes, a rare earnest musical moment from me. 🙂 Out today – My version of Prince’s “I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man”. You can listen to it on your favorite audio streamer. I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man by Phil Johnson and Roadside Attraction If you’ve ever listened to…
In 2003 I found myself sitting on the floor of my bedroom at my parents’ house next to my black lab, Lolly. I had a new digital recorder in front of me after moving up from my old 4-track. My mentor, Tim Sweeney, had been encouraging me to play solo acoustic gigs alongside the bands…
The epic tale of a once-beloved king taken down by his people. From a Medieval illuminated manuscript. The Uprising Of 1244.
“Santa’s Working From Home” is out now! I couldn’t let this shit show of a year go by without a new Xmas song, so here we go. During a pandemic even Santa Claus has to work from home. And he’s not really handling it all that well. This is the first time I’ve written a…
If there’s one thing about comedy music, it’s important to know the lyrics. That’s where most of the jokes are after all. And while I try to sing legibly, you might miss a line here and there. So I just put together a lyric video for my latest single “Binary Love”. And what better…
Awhile back I read about Google’s AI called Magenta that they’re trying to teach how to write music. I am, obviously, not excited about the robots coming for my job already. But curious nonetheless. Then they released Magenta’s first track and it was a steaming pile of nothingness. So the hitmakers of the world are…
Every year my music collection grows by leaps and bounds. When I was a kid I had to save up my money and make careful decisions as to which albums I’d buy with my hard-earned dough. Unless I could score one of those Columbia House “10 CDs for a penny!” deals. Then you could load…
I woke up one morning in one of those mid-dream states and a bizarre version of the Ramones’ “I Wanna Be Sedated” was rolling around in my head as a leftover. Slowed down, acoustic guitar, big vocal harmonies… Basically everything the Ramones didn’t stand for. But it sounded so ridiculous in my head that I…
You won’t believe the celebrities I’ve got in my new video! Seriously, you won’t believe it. While I’m working on a full-fledged video for “I Wanna Rock (Socially Responsibly)”, I put together a lyric video so you can follow along with all the jokey goodness. And things move too. Like a Harry Potter painting. But,…
In case you’ve never looked at me, I have a background in hard rock and metal music. LOVE the stuff. But some of it hasn’t held up well over the years. Some of the lyrics are downright unacceptable now. Violent, sexist, homophobic… Not very politically correct.. So being a responsible modern adult white male (‘woke’…
If you’ve been hanging around and following my various music and comedy projects over the years, you might also know that I’ve been a music teacher for a long time. Over the last few years, I started reading up on accelerated learning techniques and skill mastery principles, and putting those ideas to work with my…
You’ve seen all the background stuff on the string arrangement, the influences, the solo acoustic version, and the recording breakdown. And now the full version of “The Legend of Ms Garcia” is now available for download! Click here to listen, download, and share the song. You can also hit the player below to hear it….
We’re almost to the release of the “The Legend of Ms Garcia”. I had to do some different stuff and learn a few new tricks while recording this track. And I thought it would be fun to take you into the studio and break the song down to show you all the moving parts. I…
The studio version of “The Legend of Ms Garcia will be available on Friday February 5th and I’m excited for you to hear it. Since we’ve had some behind the scenes peeks at the song here and here, I thought I’d give you an “in front of the scenes” look today. If you have my…
My favorite songs that I’ve written are the ones that come with a visual story attached to them. At least in my head, even if I never get around to doing a video for them. “The Legend of Ms Garcia”, which will be released on February 5th, is one of those songs. It’s about my…
It’s that time of year again where stores open for longer hours and people go to great depths of debt and sleeplessness to create “joy”. And to accompany all that strfesstivity? (I made up a word! Yay!) The constant trickle of badly covered Christmas songs. Back when I worked in grocery stores, I had to…
Typical business advice says to release one project at a time and make sure it’s aligned to your core business. Ok, yeah, whatever… I don’t like to hold things back when they’re ready to go, so today I’m releasing 2 new projects that I’ve been working on. First up is my new single, “Kissing in…
I’m looking into offering some cool goodies and otherwise being much more active as an artist on Spotify. However their new rules insist that an artist have at least 250 followers before I can claim my Artist Profile. They have apparently never heard my axiom that every band is somebody’s favorite. So if you’re…
Thought I’d give a few recommendations today for some cool finds in the book and music world. Quick, name me one Japanese-American rapper from Berkeley. If you name one, it’ll be Lyrics Born. I’ve been an LB fan since “Callin’ Out” and every album gets better than the last. And his new one, “Real People”…
I was just reading an interview with Billy Corgan in Guitar World and the writer asked him about his choice of Motley Crue’s Tommy Lee to play drums on the new Smashing Pumpkins record. Billy stated that he’s a long time fan and thinks Motley Crue is a severely underrated band. And thinking about it,…
