Disney Songwriter Robert Sherman Dies At Age 86

Robert Sherman (left) and his brother Richard Sherman

I was saddened to hear of Robert Sherman’s passing today.  For someone who’s a Disney nut and a songwriter, you can’t help but be influenced by the Sherman Brothers catalog.  And personally, I think it’s a huge achievement to written one of the most loved and most hated songs of all time, “It’s A Small World”. 🙂

Robert was the quieter, but no less important half of the duo.  We’re fortunate to still have Richard Sherman hamming it up for us regularly. 🙂

By the way, if you haven’t yet seen The Boys: The Sherman Brothers’ Story, you must.  It’s a documentary done by Robert’s son Jeffrey on the Sherman Brothers career.  Extremely well done.

So today I thought we’d just peek back at some of Robert’s excellent work…

The Age of Not Believing from Bedknobs and Broomsticks

Chim Chim Cheree from Mary Poppins

Spoonful of Sugar from Mary Poppins

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious from Mary Poppins

The Wonderful Thing About Tiggers from Winnie The Pooh

Rumbly In My Tumbly from Winnie The Pooh – This one inspired one of my most popular punchlines.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

There’s lots more where this came from.  Take a peek at this list of Sherman Brothers songs on Wikipedia for more.
